Join the Blacksburg Master Chorale for an exciting spring season! In our March performance, the BMC will perform three moving musical settings that tell stories from the Holocaust camps, the experiences of John Brown and Fredrick Douglas, and a town in Montana that stood together in the face of bigotry and racism in Songs of Resistance and Transcendence. In May, we will join with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra to perform Beethoven's Symphony No. 9," Ode to Joy".

Membership at a Glance

Our rehearsal schedule and performance season are based largely on the Virginia Tech academic year. Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening beginning in mid-August, from 7:30-9:30 p.m., at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. Auditions are in mid-August and mid-January. Every concert season we perform a fall concert, holiday concert, Christmas Sing-Along, and a spring concert.

member dues and other costs

• Choir dues are $85 per semester (fall/spring). Need-based scholarships are available by application; email blacksburgmasterchorale@gmail.com for more information.

• Music fees are usually between $25–$45 per concert. The music is yours to keep and mark however is best to help you perform well!

• Each choir member is responsible for purchasing their concert uniform

Audition Process for the Blacksburg Master Chorale

The Blacksburg Master Chorale is a community group always looking to expand its membership. We encourage everyone that loves to sing to audition.  The audition process is short and simple, typically only lasting about 10-15 minutes.

The audition includes:

• Prepare and sing one of the songs in this folder (click here).

• Sing simple scales throughout your range

• A short sight reading example

• Short tonal memory exercises
